Matchday 3 delivered 74 goals across 18 matches and only five clean sheets. Manchester City scored five, Liverpool and Napoli won seven-goal games, Como beat Manchester United 4-1 and LASK somehow left Lisbon with a 3-2 win despite Sporting creating enough chances to win comfortably.
The Fantasy headline belonged to Phil Foden. His hat-trick, assist and Player of the Match award produced 23 points, seven more than the next-best confirmed score on Tuesday. Scott McTominay reached 16, while Désiré Doué and Sondre Brunstad Fet returned 14.
Wednesday changed the transfer conversation. Nicolás Paz inspired Como's win, Kylian Mbappé and Harry Kane both returned in difficult-looking fixtures, and several defenders combined goals with clean sheets. The useful question is not simply who scored. It is which parts of those performances can survive a new set of fixtures in MD4.
Foden owns the round, but MD4 still demands patience
Manchester City 5-1 AEK Athens
Foden scored three, created another and collected Player of the Match. His 23-point return was the highest confirmed score of MD3 and the sort of captaincy haul that should never be switched away.
The performance matters beyond one explosive night. Foden was central to City's best attacks rather than relying on a late cameo or a single low-probability finish. At his best, he offers several routes to points: goals, assists, a midfielder clean-sheet point and Player of the Match potential.
There is still a reason not to make an immediate transfer. City travel to Leipzig in MD4, and their attacking depth makes minutes the first question. Foden belongs near the top of the watchlist, but the sensible move is to check domestic minutes and team news before buying last week's points.
This was also a reminder that a premium player can fail without damaging the wider attack. Erling Haaland did not feature, yet City produced the highest team score of Tuesday. Managers should assess his fitness and expected start rather than treating Foden's haul as proof that every City transfer must move sideways.
Roma deliver the defensive jackpot
Roma 4-0 Slovan Bratislava
Roma supplied one of the few clean sheets of the round and added attacking returns from defence. Nahuel Molina and Mario Hermoso both reached 13 points, Daniele Ghilardi scored 10 and Leonardo Balerdi returned nine. Donyell Malen and Niccolò Pisilli also reached double figures.
That combination is exactly what Fantasy managers want from defenders: a clean-sheet route plus goals, assists or recoveries when the shut-out disappears.
The MD4 fixture is more complicated. Roma visit a Manchester United side that have just conceded four at Como, which keeps their assets interesting. But Slovan offered a far easier defensive assignment. Buying three Roma defenders because all three returned in one match would be chasing the finished result. One secure starter with attacking or recovery upside is the stronger route.
Como's Paz punishes Manchester United
Como 4-1 Manchester United
Nicolás Paz scored twice and supplied an assist as Como produced the result of Wednesday. United actually took more shots, but Como generated the clearer chances and converted them ruthlessly.
Paz is the obvious Fantasy name to carry forward. This was not an isolated defender goal or a substitute scoring with his only touch. He was involved repeatedly in Como's best attacks, making the role more interesting than the result alone.
The next test is away to Lens. That is not a fixture to fear, but it is not a free pass either. Paz deserves a place on the MD4 watchlist, particularly for managers looking beyond the premium midfielders. The final decision should still wait for his confirmed price, official MD3 score and the next team news.
For United, the warning is larger than one bad evening. Roma visit Old Trafford in MD4. It is difficult to justify buying into the United defence until the underlying performance improves.
Kane and Mbappé keep doing the useful work
Bayern München 2-2 Arsenal
Real Madrid 4-1 Leipzig
Harry Kane scored and assisted against Arsenal. Kylian Mbappé did the same as Real Madrid beat Leipzig. Neither needed the easiest fixture on the slate to return.
This is why reliable premium players remain valuable even in a volatile week. They do not need to top the entire leaderboard every time. Secure minutes, penalties and a dominant share of their team's attacks create repeated captaincy routes.
Mbappé has the more attractive immediate set-up. Real Madrid visit AEK in one of Wednesday's early MD4 fixtures, creating a chance to see the confirmed line-up before the deadline. Kane travels to Atlético, a much less inviting match on paper.
Managers do not need to sell Kane simply because the fixture is difficult. But Mbappé is likely to be the cleaner MD4 captaincy starting point if both are fit and starting.
Sporting lose the match, not the attacking appeal
Sporting CP 2-3 LASK
Luis Suárez scored twice, yet Sporting lost at home. The scoreline invites an emotional reaction, but the performance tells a different story. Sporting created 3.18 expected goals to LASK's 1.14 and had enough opportunities to win comfortably.
That makes Suárez's returns more repeatable than LASK's three-goal total. Sporting travel to Shakhtar in MD4 and remain an attack worth considering. Their defence is much harder to trust, but selling an involved forward because of the team result would confuse defensive failure with attacking threat.
LASK host Slovan next, so their attackers cannot be ignored. The caution is price chasing: three goals from 1.14 expected goals is unlikely to repeat automatically. Secure minutes and role should decide any transfer, not the shock result by itself.
Club Brugge's clean sheet came with a warning
Club Brugge 3-0 Lens
Club Brugge scored three and kept one of Wednesday's three clean sheets. Carlos Forbs and Hans Vanaken were among the attacking contributors, while Joaquin Seys combined a goal with the shut-out.
The final score looks dominant. The chance quality does not. Lens took 19 shots, put seven on target and generated 2.14 expected goals. This was a brilliant outcome for Club Brugge defenders, but not a performance that guarantees another clean sheet away to PSV.
Forbs and Vanaken retain attacking interest. The defence is better treated as a source of attacking and recovery points than as a safe shut-out bet.
Inter and Betis provide the controlled wins
Inter 1-0 Shakhtar Donetsk
Real Betis 1-0 Feyenoord
Inter and Betis produced the two quieter clean sheets of Wednesday. Carlos Augusto scored Inter's winner, while Isco decided the Betis game.
Inter's result is the more useful Fantasy signal. They travel to Feyenoord next and continue to offer a credible defensive route, especially through players with attacking involvement. Betis visit Dortmund, making their clean sheet much harder to project forward.
The wider lesson is familiar: a defender who can score, create or collect recoveries has several ways to survive when the clean sheet disappears. A defender selected only because his team kept one shut-out is far more fragile.
Tuesday's other winners still matter
Foden was the headline, but several Tuesday returns deserve to survive the full-round noise.
Scott McTominay scored twice and collected Player of the Match for 16 points as Napoli beat Bodø/Glimt 4-3. Désiré Doué returned 14 in Paris's 4-2 win over Barcelona, while Sondre Brunstad Fet matched him despite Bodø/Glimt's defeat.
Serhou Guirassy scored twice for 13 points in Dortmund's 2-1 win at Sabah. Alexis Mac Allister also reached 13 with two goals as Liverpool edged Villarreal 4-3.
The scores were excellent, but MD4 changes the context:
- Liverpool visit Fenerbahçe in an early Wednesday fixture, so confirmed line-ups can reveal the safest route into the attack.
- Paris travel to Villarreal and remain attractive going forward, but their defence has now conceded twice in consecutive high-scoring games.
- Dortmund host Betis, keeping Guirassy firmly in the forward conversation if his minutes remain secure.
- Napoli visit Porto, a tougher assignment than a seven-goal home game suggests.

Early MD4 transfer priorities
Matchday 4 begins on Tuesday 3 November. These are early watchlist priorities, not instructions to transfer before domestic matches and team news.
1. Mbappé away to AEK
The fixture, role and early Wednesday kick-off create an excellent captaincy route. Wait for the confirmed Real Madrid line-up and act with better information.
2. Foden away to Leipzig
The ceiling is obvious after 23 points. The only serious question is minutes, so monitor City's intervening matches before buying.
3. Inter defenders away to Feyenoord
Inter remain one of the more credible clean-sheet teams, but prioritise defenders who also offer attacking involvement or recoveries.
4. Sporting attackers away to Shakhtar
The LASK defeat should not erase 3.18 expected goals. Suárez remains the clearest route, with the wider attack worth monitoring.
5. Como's Paz away to Lens
Two goals and an assist against United put Paz on the shortlist. His role looked repeatable; his final official MD3 score and next team news should complete the decision.
Five lessons from MD3
- Do not switch away from an elite captain score. Foden's 23 was a clear hold, regardless of the options still to play.
- Team results and Fantasy results are different. Suárez scored twice in defeat, while Kane returned against Arsenal.
- Five clean sheets in 18 matches is another warning for defenders. Attacking threat and recoveries provide protection that a clean-sheet-only pick cannot.
- Chance quality matters when interpreting shocks. Sporting's defeat looks less alarming when the 3.18-1.14 expected-goals advantage is included.
- The next fixture matters more than the last haul. Villa assets now face Barcelona, Club Brugge visit PSV and Kane travels to Atlético.
MD3 rewarded aggression, but it also created several traps. Foden's role deserves respect. Paz's involvement deserves investigation. Sporting's attack should not be dismissed. Club Brugge's clean sheet should not be treated as certainty.
