Phil Foden is the simple answer to Matchday 3's first night. The Manchester City midfielder scored 23 UCL Fantasy points in the 5-1 win over AEK Athens, the highest total of Tuesday by seven points. If you captained him, enjoy the 46 and do absolutely nothing with the armband.
For everybody else, Wednesday is about setting a sensible threshold rather than chasing Foden's score. Hold any captain on 10 points or more. Nine is usually a hold. Eight depends on your appetite for risk. Seven is a genuine decision, but I would switch to Kylian Mbappé if he is already in my team. Six or fewer should be attacked.
The first Wednesday fixtures, Como versus Manchester United and Lille versus Galatasaray, kick off at 17:45 BST on 21 October. All manual substitutions and captain changes must be saved before then.
Prices, ownership and points correct as of 06:00 BST on Wednesday 21 October 2026.
The biggest UCL Fantasy scores from Tuesday
- Phil Foden, Manchester City, 23 points
- Scott McTominay, Napoli, 16 points
- Désiré Doué, Paris Saint-Germain, 14 points
- Sondre Brunstad Fet, Bodø/Glimt, 14 points
- Serhou Guirassy, Borussia Dortmund, 13 points
- Alexis Mac Allister, Liverpool, 13 points
- Nahuel Molina, Roma, 13 points
- Mario Hermoso, Roma, 13 points
- Donyell Malen, Roma, 11 points
- Rio Ngumoha, Liverpool, 11 points
Foden was the explosive outlier, but Tuesday also rewarded less glamorous routes. McTominay combined two goals with the Player of the Match award. Fet supplied a goal and two assists in Bodø/Glimt's 4-3 defeat. Roma's clean sheet allowed Molina and Hermoso to turn defensive returns, recoveries and attacking output into 13-point scores.
That variety matters. A 23-point midfielder can make the night look entirely attack-driven, yet four of the top ten were either defenders or midfielders whose score was strengthened by recoveries. The repeatable lesson is to buy players with more than one route to points.
Foden produces the perfect Fantasy haul
Manchester City 5-1 AEK Athens
Foden's 23 was not a routine brace dressed up by a favourable fixture. He scored three times, added an assist and collected the three-point Player of the Match bonus. At €7.0m, he turned one start into the sort of score that can define an entire matchday.
The obvious temptation is to treat him as an automatic Matchday 4 transfer. I like the player and the price, but one enormous return does not remove City's rotation risk. Foden had played only 75 minutes across the first two league-phase games before Tuesday. His role and start against Leipzig on 4 November matter more than the 23 points already banked.
Rico Lewis also emerged with nine points after two assists, while Rayan Cherki scored seven. Erling Haaland did not play, leaving owners with zero and an easy substitution decision. Move Haaland to the bench for any Wednesday player expected to start. This is exactly why an active 15-player squad matters in UCL Fantasy.
Roma deliver the clean-sheet jackpot
Roma 4-0 Slovan Bratislava
Roma supplied the safest stack of the night. Donyell Malen scored 11 points, while Molina and Hermoso reached 13. Niccolò Pisilli returned 11 and €4.0m defender Daniele Ghilardi scored ten.
This was not merely a clean-sheet sweep. Molina and Hermoso both added goals, Ghilardi supplied an assist and the recoveries lifted several defenders beyond the standard six-point return. Roma's next fixture is away to Manchester United, so I would not buy the defence solely because Slovan were beaten comfortably. The useful conclusion is narrower: secure defenders with recovery volume remain valuable even when a future clean sheet looks less certain.
Malen is more interesting for Matchday 4. He now has 26 points across three games and continues to occupy a forward slot at only €6.5m. He is not a blind transfer before team news, but he has done enough to move from differential punt to serious shortlist option.
Paris win the heavyweight game, but Yamal survives
Paris Saint-Germain 4-2 Barcelona
Désiré Doué led the Fantasy returns with 14 points. Vitinha scored nine, while Fabián Ruiz, João Neves and Lucas Hernández each returned eight. Paris have won all three league-phase matches and their midfield continues to spread the points.
Lamine Yamal still gave his owners something to work with. His seven points take him to 33 for the season, while Ousmane Dembélé finished with one. Captainers now face the classic seven-point problem: keep 14, or move the armband and ask a Wednesday player to beat seven.
If Mbappé is available in your XI, I would switch. The Real Madrid forward is at home to Leipzig and has the combination of minutes, penalties and ownership protection that makes the gamble defensible. If your best alternative is a more volatile option in a difficult fixture, keeping Yamal is perfectly reasonable. Seven is not a blank. Treat it as a calculated bet, not an automatic change.
Liverpool win another thriller
Liverpool 4-3 Villarreal
Alexis Mac Allister scored 13 points, Rio Ngumoha 11 and both Florian Wirtz and Ronald Araújo seven as Liverpool maintained their perfect league-phase record.
The 4-3 scoreline is more useful for future transfer planning than it is for Wednesday's captaincy. Liverpool have scored 12 goals in three Champions League matches, but conceded three at home to Villarreal. Their Matchday 4 trip to Lens keeps the attackers attractive, while the defence still asks owners to rely on goals and recoveries rather than clean sheets.
Mac Allister's price has risen to €6.6m, and the 13-point haul will draw attention. As with Foden, check whether the underlying role remains intact before buying last night's points. His recovery floor helps, but three goals across the opening three matchdays is not a scoring rate I would project forward without question.

PSV recorded Tuesday's other clean sheet, with goalkeeper Matěj Kovář scoring seven points and defenders Lutsharel Geertruida and Sergiño Dest returning nine and eight. Guirassy's 13 rewarded managers who trusted Dortmund in the early kick-off. McTominay's 16 was the best score in Napoli's seven-goal contest.

UCL Fantasy captain switch thresholds for Wednesday
10 points or more: hold
There is no sensible reason to risk a double-digit captain return. Foden, McTominay, Doué, Fet, Guirassy, Mac Allister, Molina, Hermoso, Malen and Ngumoha have all done enough. Bank the points.
Eight or nine points: usually hold
An eight-point captain already gives you 16. A replacement must score nine merely to improve the total by one. Switch only if you are deliberately chasing upside and own one of Wednesday's strongest captains.
Seven points: Mbappé makes the switch viable
This is the difficult line. Yamal owners can keep 14 points with the armband. Moving it to Mbappé loses the extra seven and needs an eight-point return to finish ahead. I prefer the switch because Real Madrid are at home and Mbappé remains their clearest goal route, but the downside is real.
Six points or fewer: switch
The potential reward is now large enough. Remove the armband from a captain on six or fewer and choose the best unplayed starter in your squad. Dembélé's one point and Haaland's absence are obvious cases.

Best Wednesday captain options ranked
1. Kylian Mbappé, Real Madrid, €11.0m
Mbappé is the best blend of ceiling and security. He has scored in both of Real Madrid's opening Champions League games, faces Leipzig at the Bernabéu and is the obvious choice when switching away from six points or fewer. Real Madrid's final training session took place on Tuesday, with Asencio and Rodrygo continuing their recovery work.
The only reason to avoid him is strategic. At 60 per cent ownership, Mbappé is unlikely to create a dramatic rank swing. He is the safety-first captain, not the cleverest differential.
2. Luis Suárez, Sporting CP, €7.1m
Suárez is my favourite aggressive alternative. He has 17 points from the first two matchdays, Sporting have won both games and LASK conceded six at home to Liverpool last week. Sporting coach Rui Borges described Suárez as an important player in strong form before the match.
This is a cleaner attacking fixture than Kane's meeting with Arsenal. Suárez is the captain for managers who want to attack rather than cover the most-owned premium.
3. Harry Kane, Bayern München, €11.0m
Kane has 22 points and scored twice against Viking on Matchday 2. Michael Olise is suspended, which concentrates more responsibility around Bayern's centre-forward, but Arsenal arrive with two wins and two clean sheets.
Kane can score against anybody. The fixture simply makes him a slightly less attractive one-night bet than Mbappé or Suárez. I would captain him over protecting a score of five, not over protecting a score of nine.
4. Nicolas Jackson, Aston Villa, €7.0m
Jackson has 18 points across the first two matchdays and hosts Viking, who conceded three to Bayern last week. His three per cent ownership makes him the most interesting rank-chasing route among the leading forwards.
The early warning is obvious: do not captain him unless the latest team information supports the start. Villa have enough attacking options to punish assumptions.
5. Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United, €9.0m
Bruno plays in the 17:45 BST kick-off at Como, so managers should get a confirmed team before the game locks. That is a real advantage. If he starts, his set-piece role and 90-minute potential put him in the conversation.
United will be without several players, including Lisandro Martínez, Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw, Ayden Heaven and Marcus Rashford. The absences reduce the appeal of a blind United bet. Use the early team sheet, then decide.

The Wednesday substitution checklist
- Bench every Tuesday player on zero or one point if you have an unplayed Wednesday starter.
- Usually remove two-point players. The appearance floor makes the gamble worthwhile when the replacement is expected to start.
- Think carefully at three or four points. Starting security matters more than theoretical upside.
- Do not substitute a sent-off player in the hope of erasing the score. Manual substitutions cannot remove a red-carded player.
- Wait for Como versus Manchester United and Lille versus Galatasaray line-ups. Those early teams should be known before the 17:45 BST lock.
- Save the captain change and formation. A good plan is worthless if the final selection is not confirmed.
The best response to Tuesday is calm. Foden captainers are finished. Double-digit captainers should bank the return. Managers on seven have one genuine judgement call, while anybody on six or fewer should use the second night.
Do not chase 23 points. Make the next decision on its own merits.
