Tasos Douvikas is the strongest early Matchday 5 transfer from the Matchday 4 returns. The Como forward scored 20 UCL Fantasy points in a 9-1 win at Lens, now has 37 for the season and faces AEK Athens at home next. At €6.5m, he is more than a reaction to one wild score.
Kasper Jørgensen actually finished as the top scorer with 22 points, but I would not chase the LASK defender's two-goal haul before a trip to Bodø/Glimt. The better lesson is to separate repeatable role, minutes and fixture from an exceptional single night.
My first MD5 shortlist is Douvikas, Nicolás Paz, Raphinha, Fabián Ruiz and Konrad Laimer. Djed Spence, Mattia Liberali and Jørgensen produced huge returns too, but each comes with a minutes or repeatability question that should slow the transfer down.
Prices, ownership and Fantasy scores correct as of 07:35 GMT on Thursday 5 November 2026.
Final UCL Fantasy Matchday 4 top scorers
- Kasper Jørgensen, LASK defender, 22 points
- Tasos Douvikas, Como forward, 20 points
- Aleksei Batrakov, Galatasaray midfielder, 17 points
- Konrad Laimer, Bayern München defender, 17 points
- Fabián Ruiz, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, 16 points
- Djed Spence, Inter defender, 16 points
- Raphinha, Barcelona midfielder, 15 points
- João Neves, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, 15 points
- Gabriel Veiga, Porto midfielder, 14 points
- Nicolás Paz, Como midfielder, 13 points
Bruno Fernandes, Erik Botheim and Yann Bisseck also scored 13. Matheus Cunha, Viktor Gyökeres, Joaquin Seys, Calvin Verdonk, Henrik Falchener and Mattia Liberali all reached 12.
That is a broad spread rather than a single obvious template. Defenders occupy four of the first ten places, midfielders five and Douvikas is the only forward. The scoring routes matter. Ball recoveries, clean sheets and Player of the Match points can turn a good defender or midfielder into the week's best asset, while forwards remain more dependent on goals and assists.
Use the UCL Fantasy rankings to filter the current points table, or compare players directly before converting one matchday into a transfer.
Douvikas is the headline, but Paz may be the safer Como pick
Como's 9-1 win at Lens equalled the biggest victory margin in Champions League history. Douvikas scored a hat-trick, collected Player of the Match and finished on 20 Fantasy points. He has now scored in all four league-phase matches and leads the competition with six goals.
That sequence is the important part. A hat-trick is not repeatable on demand, but four scoring matches in four and a home fixture against AEK Athens form a proper case. Douvikas costs €6.5m, has 37 points and is the best budget-forward route into Como for MD5.
Nicolás Paz is the alternative I slightly prefer for managers who want the safer all-round role. The €7.0m midfielder returned 13 at Lens and leads Como's attack with five Champions League assists this season. His 43 Fantasy points are six more than Douvikas, while midfielder classification adds an extra point per goal and a clean-sheet route.
Buying both is viable for the AEK fixture, but it commits two attacking slots to the same result. I would start with Paz in midfield when the squad can afford him, or Douvikas when a cheaper forward unlocks Raphinha or another premium midfielder.
Liberali's 12 points are different. The €6.0m midfielder has played only 44 Champions League minutes this season. One explosive substitute appearance does not establish a starting role. He belongs on the watchlist, not in an early transfer.
Jørgensen's 22 is a result to enjoy, not automatically chase
Jørgensen scored twice as LASK beat Slovan Bratislava 4-0, adding the clean sheet and Player of the Match award. A €4.5m defender scoring 22 points is glorious. It is also an extreme outcome.
The MD5 fixture is away to Bodø/Glimt. LASK have now shown attacking threat, but Jørgensen's value cannot be based on another brace. Managers buying him need to believe in the minutes, recovery potential and clean-sheet route after the goals are removed.
Laimer is the more convincing defender from the high scorers. He produced 17 in Bayern's 2-0 win at Atlético de Madrid, costs €5.0m and has played 334 Champions League minutes. Bayern travel to Lille next. The fixture is not risk-free, but the combination of price, minutes and multiple scoring routes is stronger than the raw MD4 leaderboard alone suggests.
Spence reached 16 for Inter after two assists and a clean sheet at Feyenoord. The upside is obvious, especially with Stuttgart visiting in MD5. The concern is 161 league-phase minutes across four matchdays. At €5.0m, he is a high-upside pick only if the starting place looks secure close to the deadline.
Raphinha remains the best premium midfielder for MD5
Raphinha scored twice in Barcelona's 3-0 win over Aston Villa and returned 15 points. He now has 33 Fantasy points despite playing 201 Champions League minutes, and Barcelona travel to Sabah in the early Wednesday fixture on 25 November.
The €9.5m midfielder is the standout premium transfer and a strong second-night captain. His 39 per cent ownership means going without him also carries rank risk, but the recommendation is based on role and fixture rather than ownership. When he starts, he offers goals, set-piece involvement and captaincy ceiling from a midfield slot.
I would still wait for Barcelona's domestic schedule and official team news before buying. MD5 is almost three weeks away. Early certainty has very little value when injuries and rotation can change the decision.
For captain planning, remember the split. Como play AEK on Tuesday, while Barcelona visit Sabah on Wednesday. Douvikas or Paz can take the first armband, leaving Raphinha as the change if Tuesday disappoints. That is a much stronger two-day structure than simply owning the two highest projected names on the same night.
Paris offer points, but choosing the right midfielder is difficult
Paris won 6-0 at Villarreal. Fabián Ruiz scored 16, João Neves 15 and Désiré Doué nine. The performance confirms the strength of the attack, yet it also shows why predicting the exact beneficiary can be difficult.
Fabián is my early preference. He costs €6.5m, has 37 points and has played 354 league-phase minutes. That minutes record gives him the clearest base before a home meeting with Roma. João Neves is €6.0m and has enough recovery and attacking routes to remain interesting, but his 194 minutes make the role less secure.
Doué still has 35 points and a high ceiling. I would not sell him solely because Fabián outscored him in one match. Paris spread six goals across five scorers at Villarreal. Chasing whichever midfielder most recently hit double figures is exactly how transfers become one week late.
Check the MD5 fixtures and use the Transfer Planner to see whether a Paris midfielder fits beyond one home game.
Do not overreact to the premium forwards
Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland both scored six points. Harry Kane returned five. None of those totals justifies an automatic sale.
Mbappé scored in Real Madrid's 3-2 win at AEK and now faces PSV at home. Haaland scored the winner in Manchester City's 3-2 victory at Leipzig and hosts Napoli next. Kane blanked for goals at Atlético but assisted Laimer and travels to Lille.
Douvikas has outscored all three in MD4 and offers a major saving, but the decision is about squad structure. Selling one premium forward makes sense if the money creates two clear upgrades and leaves a credible captain plan. It makes less sense when the move merely replaces a proven penalty-taking premium before another strong fixture.
My current order for MD5 is Mbappé first, Haaland second and Kane third. Douvikas is the budget alternative, not an automatic replacement for every premium.
Five early transfer lessons for Matchday 5
- Put Douvikas and Paz at the top of the shortlist. Como's home fixture against AEK follows four consecutive scoring matches for Douvikas and another creative display from Paz.
- Do not buy last week's points without a role. Jørgensen's 22 and Liberali's 12 were outstanding, but neither return guarantees a repeatable route.
- Keep Raphinha in the premium plan. Sabah away gives him a strong fixture and the Wednesday captain slot.
- Prefer secure minutes in crowded attacks. Fabián currently offers the clearest Paris minutes case, while Spence needs a confirmed-looking Inter role.
- Use the long break. The MD5 deadline is 17:45 GMT on Tuesday 24 November. There is no reason to make an early move before domestic matches and official availability updates.
The cleanest early structure is a Tuesday captain from Como or Real Madrid, followed by Raphinha on Wednesday if needed. Douvikas is the best new transfer. Paz may still be the better Como asset. Jørgensen is the top scorer, but chasing 22 points after they have happened is not a strategy.
For the full Tuesday context, read the MD4 Day 1 review and captain-switch guide. The next step is to build a shortlist, then wait for news rather than locking transfers three weeks early.
