Figures correct as of 2 November 2026, 11:30 GMT. The Matchday 4 deadline is Tuesday 3 November at 17:45 GMT.
Lamine Yamal is the best UCL Fantasy Matchday 4 captain for Tuesday, while Kylian Mbappé is the leading Wednesday option. Victor Osimhen is the aggressive Tuesday alternative because Galatasaray play in the early kick-off, giving managers confirmed line-ups before the deadline. Erling Haaland is the higher-variance Wednesday route if Mbappé's popularity makes a different captain worthwhile.
My preferred two-day sequence is Yamal on Tuesday, then Mbappé on Wednesday if Yamal scores seven points or fewer. Keep a double-figure Tuesday captain. Eight or nine points is the difficult zone, where your rank goal and Wednesday alternative should decide the call.

The MD4 expected-points table is useful context, but captaincy needs more than one projected number. Fixture, playing day, confirmed line-ups, route to a double-digit score and the strength of your fallback all matter.
Why Yamal tops the Tuesday captain picks
Yamal has delivered 33 Fantasy points in three starts, with two goals and four assists across 270 minutes. His 32% ownership reduces the damage if he hauls, but that is not the main reason to captain him. Barcelona's home fixture with Aston Villa has the ingredients for an open game, and midfield scoring gives Yamal an extra point per goal plus a clean-sheet route that forwards do not have.
He also has the strongest balance of ceiling and role. A goal, an assist and appearance points already take a midfielder into double figures before Player of the Match or recovery points enter the calculation. Yamal has returned in every league-phase match so far, including a 15-point score in Barcelona's previous home game. He then scored twice in Barcelona's 6-1 win over Alavés on Saturday, with Raphinha also producing a brace.
The risk is that Villa are not soft opposition. They have won all three league-phase matches and scored ten goals. This is an attacking captain call, not a bet on Barcelona controlling every part of the game. For a safe opening captain, Yamal is still my first choice.
Osimhen is the aggressive Tuesday route
Osimhen's case has improved quickly. He scored and collected Player of the Match against Lille on Matchday 3, then struck twice in Galatasaray's 2-1 derby win over Fenerbahçe on 26 October. Stuttgart have conceded five times across their last three matches, while Galatasaray have scored seven in their last two European outings.
The most useful Fantasy detail is the kick-off time. Galatasaray against Stuttgart starts at 17:45 GMT, so the official team sheet should arrive before the Matchday 4 deadline. If Osimhen starts, the main minutes doubt disappears. That makes him a much cleaner gamble than captaining a player whose place remains uncertain until after lock.
At €8.0m and 6% ownership, he is the clear upside play for managers chasing rank. He also scored in Galatasaray's 4-0 win at Konyaspor on Saturday before being withdrawn after 61 minutes. I still place Yamal first because Barcelona's midfielder has the stronger season-long European evidence. Osimhen is the captain I would choose when safety is less valuable than leverage.
Kane is elite, but Atlético away lowers the ceiling
Kane leads this shortlist with 34 Fantasy points, four goals and two assists. Bayern rested him completely in Wednesday's 6-1 cup win over Magdeburg, then he assisted Dayot Upamecano in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Dortmund. He also missed a penalty, but that does not change the central point: the player is not the concern. The opponent is.
Atlético have conceded only three goals in the league phase. Kane can score against anyone, and his penalty role keeps him in the captain conversation, but this is a tougher route to a haul than Yamal at home or Osimhen with a confirmed start against Stuttgart.
Owners should not confuse third in a captain ranking with a sell recommendation. Kane remains an excellent hold. I simply prefer to use him as a high-quality squad pick rather than the armband when Tuesday offers two cleaner combinations of fixture and upside.
Suárez and Raphinha are the Tuesday alternatives
Luis Suárez has 27 Fantasy points, four goals and 249 minutes for Sporting. He plays in the other early fixture, away to Shakhtar, so managers will know whether he starts before committing. That team-sheet advantage and his consistent European output make him a legitimate fourth choice, particularly for squads without Yamal, Osimhen or Kane.
Raphinha has the same attractive Barcelona fixture as Yamal, but only 131 league-phase minutes. His ceiling is obvious and UEFA include him among the alternative captain options for Tuesday. I would wait for stronger minutes evidence before putting him above the four names ahead of him. I like the fixture more than I like the captaincy certainty.
Use the captain picks tool and fixture schedule to check the playing-day split before locking your XI.
Mbappé is the best Wednesday captain
Mbappé has scored in all three league-phase matches, producing 26 Fantasy points from three goals and one assist. He also scored twice in the Clásico on 25 October and now has six club goals across his last four appearances. Real Madrid then visit an AEK Athens side that have conceded eight goals across their last two Champions League matches.
That is the strongest combination of form, opponent and role on Wednesday. Real play in the early kick-off at 17:45 GMT, so managers switching the armband will also see Mbappé's team sheet before the final decision. There is no need to guess.
His 56% ownership makes him the safe Wednesday captain, but the fixture gives him genuine upside too. I would move the armband to Mbappé after a Tuesday score of seven or fewer without hesitation. He is not merely insurance. He is the best single-match captain on the second day.
Haaland is the aggressive Wednesday switch
Haaland scored four goals in the opening two matchdays before sitting out Manchester City's 5-1 win over AEK Athens. He has 22 Fantasy points despite playing only 180 minutes, and his history against Leipzig is absurd: 12 goals in eight meetings. He started City's 1-0 league defeat by Brighton on Saturday, so Matchday 3 now looks more like managed workload than a loss of status.
The concern is obvious. Missing Matchday 3 introduces more uncertainty than Mbappé carries, and City play at 20:00 GMT rather than in the early slot. Managers will not receive the same pre-kick-off certainty when setting the captain.
If chasing, Haaland is the better differential captain because his 22% ownership is far below Mbappé's. If protecting rank, I would take the early Real Madrid team sheet and captain Mbappé. Aggression is useful only when the extra uncertainty is intentional.
Guirassy, Gabriel and Isak
Guirassy is the strongest Wednesday alternative outside the two premium forwards. He has four goals and 27 Fantasy points, including 13 on Matchday 3, and Borussia Dortmund host Real Betis. The home fixture and current European output put him comfortably above Isak for me.
Gabriel offers a different route. Arsenal travel to Slavia Praha with two clean sheets from three league-phase matches, while Gabriel has played every minute and collected 12 recovery points. A defender usually needs a clean sheet plus an attacking return or Player of the Match to challenge the elite attackers, so he is a specialist captain rather than the default.
Isak is listed by UEFA among the Wednesday alternatives, but six Fantasy points and 112 minutes are not enough to move him above Mbappé, Haaland or Guirassy. The early Liverpool team sheet helps, yet a confirmed start would make him interesting rather than automatic.
You can compare the leading captain candidates directly before making the final call.
The MD4 captain switch thresholds
Use the first captain as a free shot, but do not throw away a good score simply because Mbappé has the prettier Wednesday fixture.
- 10 points or more: keep. A 20-point captain return is already an excellent outcome.
- Eight or nine points: usually keep for safety. Switch only if you are deliberately chasing and have confirmed Mbappé or a high-upside alternative.
- Six or seven points: switch to Mbappé in most teams. The upside is worth risking four to six doubled points.
- Five points or fewer: switch. This is the clear second chance the two-day format provides.
- Captain did not play: switch manually if possible. Do not assume the double-points bonus will transfer automatically after other manual changes.
The threshold should be based on the doubled total you are giving up. Moving from an eight-point player means surrendering 16 captain points, not eight. That is why the eight-to-nine band deserves more respect than it often receives.
Safe and aggressive captain routes
Safe route: Yamal on Tuesday, Mbappé on Wednesday only if Yamal scores seven or fewer. Both have strong roles, high ownership and clear routes to double figures.
Balanced route: Osimhen on Tuesday if he starts, then Mbappé after seven or fewer. This uses the early Galatasaray team sheet without giving up the strongest Wednesday fallback.
Aggressive route: Osimhen on Tuesday, then Haaland or Guirassy if the first score is below eight. This can create a major rank swing, but every step adds minutes or ownership risk.
Kane-owner route: captain Kane if Yamal and Osimhen are unavailable in your squad. Keep a double-digit return and use confirmed Mbappé on Wednesday after seven or fewer.
For the wider transfer context, the MD3 review and first MD4 lessons separate repeatable roles from one-off hauls. The MD3 deadline guide also remains a useful example of planning the armband across two playing days.
Final captain verdict
Captain Lamine Yamal on Tuesday for the best mix of role, scoring system and home attacking upside. Choose Victor Osimhen instead if you want a lower-owned route and he is confirmed in Galatasaray's early line-up.
On Wednesday, Kylian Mbappé is the standout switch. His early team sheet, current scoring run and AEK fixture make him safer than Haaland and more explosive than the defensive alternatives. Keep ten points or more from Tuesday, think carefully at eight or nine, and switch seven or fewer.
