The first legs delivered chaos. Seven-goal thrillers, a hat-trick from Valverde, Bodø/Glimt continuing their fairytale, and Atlético dismantling Spurs. Now it's time for the return fixtures — and in UCL Fantasy, the aggregate context makes Matchday 12 a completely different puzzle to solve.
Here's the key question for every manager this week: which teams need goals? Because desperation equals attacking intent, and attacking intent equals fantasy points. Let's break down all eight second legs.
The Aggregate Picture
Before we get into individual ties, understanding the aggregate situation is essential. It shapes everything — who will attack, who will sit deep, and where the goals are most likely to come from.
- Sporting 0-2 Bodø/Glimt → Sporting MUST attack at home
- Arsenal 1-1 Leverkusen → Perfectly poised, both sides will go for it
- Man City 0-3 Real Madrid → City need a miracle at the Etihad
- Chelsea 2-5 PSG → Chelsea need four goals; carnage incoming
- Barcelona 1-1 Newcastle → All square; Camp Nou will be electric
- Spurs 2-5 Atlético → Spurs must score at least four; game over?
- Bayern 6-1 Atalanta → Bayern cruise; expect rotation
- Liverpool 0-1 Galatasaray → Liverpool need at least one at Anfield
Tuesday 17 March — Day 1
Sporting vs Bodø/Glimt (17:45 GMT)
Sporting trail 2-0 and absolutely must come out swinging at the Estádio José Alvalade. Francisco Trincão will be the creative fulcrum, and Geny Catamo should see plenty of the ball in attacking areas. Morten Hjulmand could push further forward than usual as Sporting chase the tie.
But don't overlook Bodø/Glimt on the counter. Jens Petter Hauge has been the story of the competition — 6 goals and 5 assists coming into the second legs, and a 2-0 cushion means Bodø can sit deep and hit Sporting on the break. He's a budget gem with genuine upside even in a defensive setup.
Arsenal vs Leverkusen (17:45 GMT)
This is the tie of the round for fantasy managers. A 1-1 draw in Germany means both teams will go for the win at the Emirates, and that means goals. Arsenal's home record in Europe this season has been exceptional, and with Bukayo Saka, Viktor Gyökeres, and Martin Ødegaard all firing, the Gunners have the firepower to take control.
Gyökeres in particular stands out — the January signing has added a ruthless cutting edge to Arsenal's attack, and on a big European night at the Emirates, expect him to be heavily involved. Martinelli (6 UCL goals this season) continues to fly under the radar as well.
Leverkusen won't park the bus. Alejandro Grimaldo remains a fantasy goldmine from left-back, and Patrik Schick will be dangerous on the counter. Arsenal defenders are appealing too — Gabriel and William Saliba both carry aerial threat from set pieces.
Man City vs Real Madrid (20:00 GMT)
City trail 3-0 from the Bernabéu after Valverde's hat-trick masterclass. The tie looks over — but that's actually good news for fantasy managers. Pep Guardiola has nothing to lose, which means City will throw everything forward at the Etihad.
Erling Haaland (7 UCL goals) and Omar Marmoush will lead a desperate assault. Rayan Cherki should be given license to create, and Bernardo Silva will be everywhere. The question is whether Real Madrid sit deep or try to kill the tie early — with Mbappé still out, Vinícius Júnior carries the counter-attacking threat alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold.
City's need for goals makes this a high-ceiling fixture for their attackers, even if the tie itself is likely beyond them.
Chelsea vs PSG (20:00 GMT)
Chelsea were obliterated 5-2 in Paris and need to overturn a three-goal deficit at Stamford Bridge. Like City, they'll throw caution to the wind — which is terrible for Chelsea's defence but excellent for attackers on both sides.
Pedro Neto and Estêvão will be given free rein to attack, while João Pedro needs to be clinical. But the real fantasy play here might be PSG assets on the counter. Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will have acres of space as Chelsea push forward desperately. Bradley Barcola is another option who could punish an open Chelsea backline.
Wednesday 18 March — Day 2
Barcelona vs Newcastle (20:00 GMT)
The aggregate is level at 1-1, which makes Camp Nou an absolute cauldron. Barcelona at home in a knockout tie under the lights — Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Robert Lewandowski will be backed by 99,000 fans to get the job done. Pedri and Dani Olmo pull the strings in midfield.
But Newcastle won't just defend. Anthony Gordon — the competition's second-highest scorer with 10 UCL goals — is a genuine game-changer on the counter. Harvey Barnes and Yoane Wissa provide pace in transition, and Sandro Tonali can drive from deep.
Spurs vs Atlético Madrid (20:00 GMT)
Spurs were demolished 5-2 in Madrid and realistically, this tie is over. Atlético will set up to control, defend, and counter — Simeone's bread and butter. That makes their attackers less appealing than in the first leg, but Julián Álvarez and Alexander Sørloth could still punish Spurs if they overcommit.
From a Spurs perspective, pride is all that's left. Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus may produce individual moments, but the collective is broken. This is a fixture to avoid heavy investment in.
Bayern vs Atalanta (20:00 GMT)
Bayern won the first leg 6-1. This is a dead rubber in all but name. Expect heavy rotation from Thomas Tuchel — Harry Kane may get reduced minutes, and several first-choice players could be rested with the quarter-finals in mind.
This is the biggest trap of the matchday. Kane has been the standout premium striker all season, but a 6-1 aggregate lead means Bayern have zero incentive to push hard. Even if Kane starts, he could be pulled at half-time.
Liverpool vs Galatasaray (17:45 GMT)
Liverpool trail 1-0 from Istanbul and Anfield under the lights for a European knockout tie is one of football's great spectacles. Expect Slot's side to come out with intensity from minute one.
Mohamed Salah is the obvious headline pick — Anfield, knockout football, Liverpool needing goals. It writes itself. Florian Wirtz has been transformative since his January move, and Hugo Ekitiké provides a goal threat up front. Virgil van Dijk carries aerial menace from set pieces and Liverpool will be hunting that clean sheet.
Victor Osimhen remains Galatasaray's danger man with 7 UCL goals, but sitting on a 1-0 lead, Galatasaray may set up defensively — limiting his service.
Our Top Picks
Transfer Priority
- Transfer IN: Arsenal attackers — Saka, Gyökeres, or Martinelli. The 1-1 aggregate means both teams will go for it, and Arsenal at the Emirates are formidable
- Transfer IN: Salah — If you don't own him, fix that immediately. Anfield, knockout round, Liverpool needing a goal. Non-negotiable
- Transfer OUT: Bayern assets — Kane, Olise, Musiala all face severe rotation risk with the tie effectively over at 6-1
- Transfer OUT: Spurs players — The tie is dead. Reinvest elsewhere
- Consider: Dembélé or Kvaratskhelia — PSG on the counter against a desperate Chelsea is a fantasy dream
Chip Advice
If you still have your Limitless chip, this is NOT the week. Save it for the quarter-finals when the fixture list narrows and stacking becomes even more powerful.
Your Wildcard should ideally have been used for the unlimited transfer window in Leg 1. If you still have it, consider deploying it before the quarter-finals when the squad requirements shift dramatically with only 8 teams remaining.
The key strategic takeaway: don't overthink it. The aggregate scorelines have made several ties predictable in terms of game state. Stack Arsenal and Liverpool, avoid the dead rubbers (Bayern-Atalanta, Spurs-Atlético), and target the open games where desperate teams will attack.
