UCL Fantasy Round of 16 Leg 1 Preview

Captain picks, transfer targets, injury updates, and expected points for all 8 first-leg ties.

The Round of 16 is finally here, and this is where UCL Fantasy gets serious. Eight first-leg ties across two nights, with massive implications for your rank. Here's our full breakdown.

Monday 10 March — The Early Kicks

Galatasaray vs Liverpool (17:45 GMT)

Liverpool are heavy favourites and travel to Istanbul in superb form. The big news: Alisson is OUT — replaced by Mamardashvili between the sticks. Offensively, Liverpool's January business has been transformative: Florian Wirtz starts in the XI alongside Salah, with Hugo Ekitiké and Cody Gakpo providing further firepower. Szoboszlai and Mac Allister control midfield, while Jeremie Frimpong offers pace from full-back.

Galatasaray's main threat is Victor Osimhen (7 UCL goals this season), supported by Noa Lang and Barış Alper Yılmaz in a quick front line. Lucas Torreira anchors midfield.

Fantasy tip: Salah is the standout pick here. Liverpool are heavy favourites away to a Galatasaray side that conceded freely in the league phase, and Salah has been directly involved in goals in almost every UCL appearance this season.

Atalanta vs Bayern München (17:45 GMT)

Bayern are loaded. Harry Kane (8 UCL goals this season) leads the line, with Michael Olise (6 assists — joint top in the competition) and Jamal Musiala creating behind him. Nicolas Jackson and Luis Díaz provide depth, while Kimmich controls midfield. Jonathan Tah marshals the defence. Atalanta counter with Gianluca Scamacca up front and Lazar Samardžić pulling strings.

Fantasy tip: Kane at 8 goals is Bayern's main man, but Olise at 6 assists is the differential — classified as a midfielder, so his goals are worth 5 points.

Newcastle vs Barcelona (20:00 GMT)

The tie of the round. Newcastle at St James' Park are a nightmare for any visiting side, and Anthony Gordon (10 UCL goals this season — second highest!) is in the form of his life. Harvey Barnes and Jacob Murphy provide width, with Sandro Tonali and Joelinton driving from midfield. Barcelona counter with Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Robert Lewandowski in a potent front three, with Pedri and Dani Olmo controlling the game.

Fantasy tip: Gordon is a must-own at this point. 10 goals in the competition and playing at home against a Barcelona side that has conceded in every away UCL match this season.

Atlético Madrid vs Tottenham (20:00 GMT)

Simeone's Atlético are notoriously tough to break down at the Metropolitano. Julián Álvarez and Alexander Sørloth lead the attack, with Álex Baena providing set-piece quality and Koke controlling the tempo. Spurs will need Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus at their creative best, with Dominic Solanke and Randal Kolo Muani as attacking options, and João Palhinha anchoring midfield. A tough ask at the Metropolitano.

Tuesday 11 March — Day 2

Leverkusen vs Arsenal (17:45 GMT)

Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen carry huge European pedigree — Patrik Schick leads the line, Ibrahim Maza provides flair, and Alejandro Grimaldo is a fantasy gem from left-back. Arsenal travel with serious firepower: Bukayo Saka and Martinelli (6 UCL goals) on the wings, Martin Ødegaard pulling strings, and January signing Viktor Gyökeres spearheading the attack. Kai Havertz returns to Leverkusen — expect him to be motivated.

Bodø/Glimt vs Sporting CP (17:45 GMT)

The upset kings. Bodø/Glimt knocked out Inter in the playoffs (5-2 on aggregate!) and Jens Petter Hauge has been sensational — 6 goals and 5 assists in the competition, supported by Kasper Høgh and Håkon Evjen. Sporting counter with Francisco Trincão, Geny Catamo, and Morten Hjulmand in midfield.

Fantasy tip: Hauge is the best budget pick in UCL Fantasy right now. 11 goal involvements at a fraction of the price of premium assets.

Real Madrid vs Man City (20:00 GMT)

The marquee tie — but Real Madrid are decimated. Mbappé (knee), Rodrygo (ACL, season over), and Bellingham (hamstring) are all confirmed OUT. Vinícius Júnior carries the burden alongside Arda Güler and Camavinga, with Trent Alexander-Arnold now at right-back.

Man City have rebuilt impressively: Gianluigi Donnarumma in goal, Omar Marmoush and Erling Haaland (7 UCL goals) up front, Rayan Cherki creating from midfield, and Bernardo Silva still pulling the strings.

Fantasy tip: AVOID all Real Madrid attackers. With Mbappé, Bellingham, and Rodrygo all out, Vinícius is isolated. Load up on City assets instead — Haaland and Marmoush are the picks.

PSG vs Chelsea (20:00 GMT)

PSG have plenty of attacking options — Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Bradley Barcola, and Désiré Doué competing for places, with Vitinha and João Neves controlling midfield. Chelsea counter with Pedro Neto, Estêvão, and João Pedro in attack, protected by the Enzo Fernández-Moises Caicedo midfield pivot. This could be tight and tactical.
