Matchday 2 was not subtle. Eighteen matches produced 78 goals, with 46 arriving on Wednesday alone. Liverpool scored six, Aston Villa scored six, Paris won 4-2 at Manchester City and Real Madrid recovered from 3-1 down to beat Roma 4-3.
The Fantasy scores were just as wild. Bradley Barcola's hat-trick delivered the only 20-point haul of the round. Ross Barkley reached 18, two defenders scored 17, and several popular captaincy choices ended up on opposite sides of the game.
Harry Kane and Lamine Yamal rewarded managers who held their Tuesday scores. Michael Olise's red card forced a switch. Ousmane Dembélé and Kylian Mbappé then rescued plenty of teams on Wednesday, while Serhou Guirassy and Ermedin Demirović reminded us that a strong fixture does not guarantee strong minutes.
This is the complete UCL Fantasy Matchday 2 review, based on UEFA's officially confirmed player scores rather than provisional event scoring.
The biggest UCL Fantasy scores in MD2
- Bradley Barcola, Liverpool, 20 points
- Ross Barkley, Aston Villa, 18 points
- Fredrik Sjøvold, Bodø/Glimt, 17 points
- Nicolò Tresoldi, Club Brugge, 17 points
- Jurriën Timber, Arsenal, 16 points
- Carlos Forbs, Club Brugge, 14 points
- Jeremie Frimpong, Liverpool, 14 points
- Santiago Mouriño, Villarreal, 14 points
- Anis Hadj Moussa, Feyenoord, 13 points
- Harry Kane, Bayern München, 13 points
Barcola was the headline act, but the list shows why UCL Fantasy remains different from a simple goals game. Sjøvold combined a winning goal, eight recoveries, a clean sheet and Player of the Match. Timber added the same bonus to a goal and clean sheet. Forbs reached 14 without scoring because three assists and seven recoveries kept adding points.
Barcola turns Liverpool's injury crisis into an opportunity
LASK 3-6 Liverpool
Liverpool arrived in Austria without a settled front line. Bradley Barcola left with a hat-trick, Player of the Match and 20 Fantasy points.
Ronald Araújo opened the scoring before Barcola struck twice in the first half and completed his treble after the break. Jeremie Frimpong added a goal and two assists for 14 points, Araújo reached 13, and Florian Wirtz supplied an assist for six.
It was the perfect example of why confirmed line-ups matter. Barcola was not the obvious Liverpool captain before the team sheet, but the official XI revealed a central role in an attack missing several established forwards. Managers who reacted had the highest scorer of the entire matchday available before the deadline.
Liverpool host Villarreal in MD3. Barcola immediately enters the transfer conversation, but his minutes still need checking once the injured attackers return. Frimpong looks more repeatable: his advanced role gives him attacking routes even when Liverpool concede.
Villa produce the best team performance of the round
Aston Villa 6-0 Fenerbahçe
Aston Villa matched Liverpool's six goals and added a clean sheet. Ross Barkley scored twice, assisted once and finished on 18 points. Nicolas Jackson scored twice for 12, while Johan Manzambi marked his birthday with a goal, Player of the Match and 13.
The most important detail was not merely the score. Villa repeatedly punished turnovers and continued attacking after the contest was settled. That gives their assets both a high ceiling and multiple routes to returns.
Their MD3 fixture is even more attractive: Viking visit Villa Park. Barkley will be difficult to ignore if his starting place remains secure, Jackson has genuine captaincy upside, and the defence offers a route into the fixture without paying for an attacker.
This is the clearest early fixture swing from MD2 to MD3.
Sjøvold shocks Dortmund and the Fantasy leaderboard
Bodø/Glimt 1-0 Borussia Dortmund
Fredrik Sjøvold delivered the defender score of the round. His winning goal, clean sheet, eight recoveries and Player of the Match produced 17 points.
The result was no accident. Bodø/Glimt created the better chances before Sjøvold finished Sondre Auklend's pass, while Nikita Haikin protected the lead when Dortmund finally threatened.
For Fantasy managers, the lesson is more useful than a blind transfer. A defender who combines an attacking role with recovery volume can score heavily without relying on clean sheets alone. Sjøvold has that profile, but Bodø/Glimt travel to Napoli next. He is a hold for owners, not an automatic chase after one huge return.
The bigger warning belongs to Dortmund. Serhou Guirassy played only 30 minutes and scored one point. A popular Wednesday captain failed because the minutes disappeared before the fixture could help him.
Paris prove that fixture difficulty does not remove ceiling
Manchester City 2-4 Paris Saint-Germain
Paris produced one of the performances of the week. Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé, Vitinha and Maghnes Akliouche all scored, while Erling Haaland replied twice for City.
Vitinha combined his goal with eight recoveries and Player of the Match for 12 points. Doué also scored 12 through a goal and assist. Dembélé's goal and assist brought nine, making him the best of the widely discussed Wednesday captain switches.
Haaland still scored ten in defeat. That is the important Fantasy distinction: a bad team result does not automatically mean a bad premium asset. City host AEK Athens in MD3, so selling Haaland because City conceded four would be an emotional response to the wrong part of the match.
Paris now host Barcelona. It is a difficult fixture for defenders and an appealing one for attackers. Yamal, Dembélé, Doué and Vitinha all have credible routes to points in a game that neither side is built to manage cautiously.
Real Madrid's comeback changes the premium conversation
Roma 3-4 Real Madrid
Roma led 3-1 before Real Madrid scored three times in the final eight minutes. Kylian Mbappé marked his 100th Champions League appearance with a goal from outside the box and returned eight points.
The late hero was Endrick. Introduced from the bench, he scored, assisted and collected Player of the Match for 11 points in 32 minutes. Antonio Rüdiger completed the comeback from another Arda Güler delivery.
Mbappé captainers received 16 points, a respectable rescue after a poor Tuesday score. Endrick's haul is more dangerous to interpret. The efficiency was extraordinary, but 32 minutes is not yet a secure Fantasy role.
Real Madrid host Leipzig next. Mbappé remains the reliable route. Endrick is an explosive differential only if the next team news points towards more minutes.
The Tuesday winners still matter
The full matchday should not erase what happened on the first night.
Nicolò Tresoldi's hat-trick at Inter brought 17 points, while Carlos Forbs supplied three assists for 14. Club Brugge now host Lens, giving both players a strong follow-up fixture.
Jurriën Timber scored 16 as Arsenal beat Lille 3-0, and the Arsenal defence has now kept clean sheets in both league-phase matches. The problem is schedule rather than quality: they visit Bayern in MD3.
Harry Kane's two goals and Player of the Match brought 13 points in Bayern's 3-3 draw at Viking. Lamine Yamal supplied two assists and returned 11 as Barcelona won 4-1 at Galatasaray. Both were excellent holds as Tuesday captains.
Michael Olise finished on minus one after his red card. Moving the armband was clearly correct, but the best Wednesday outcome depended on the replacement. Dembélé scored nine, Mbappé eight, Wirtz six, Demirović five and Guirassy one.
That range is the multi-day format in one line. A captain switch creates another opportunity, not a guaranteed rescue.
Eight clean sheets, but very few were obvious
Arsenal, Atlético de Madrid, Leipzig, Sabah, Sporting CP, Aston Villa, Bodø/Glimt and Stuttgart were the eight teams to keep clean sheets.
Only Arsenal entered the round as a genuinely popular defensive target. The other shut-outs rewarded managers who found budget value, recovery volume or a specific fixture edge.
The standout defensive scores underline the point:
- Sjøvold, 17: goal, clean sheet, eight recoveries and Player of the Match
- Timber, 16: goal, clean sheet and Player of the Match
- Frimpong, 14: goal and two assists despite conceding three
- Mouriño, 14: goal, six recoveries and Player of the Match despite conceding
- Vagnoman, 12: assist, clean sheet, recoveries and Player of the Match
Chasing clean sheets alone is fragile. The best defenders can still score when the clean sheet disappears.

Early MD3 transfer priorities
Matchday 3 begins on Tuesday 20 October at 17:45 BST. Prices and team news can move before then, so these are watchlist priorities rather than blind early transfers.
1. Aston Villa against Viking
Barkley, Jackson and the Villa defence combine form with the best immediate fixture swing. Confirm the attacking roles after the weekend, then prioritise the most secure starter.
2. Liverpool against Villarreal
Barcola and Frimpong have enormous upside. The risk is returning competition in attack, so Liverpool's availability news matters more than the MD2 points alone.
3. Club Brugge against Lens
Tresoldi now has 23 points across two matchdays and Forbs has shown multiple routes to assists. Their home fixture keeps both relevant.
4. Manchester City against AEK Athens
Haaland scored twice even as City lost. A home meeting with AEK is a much cleaner captaincy fixture than the Paris game.
5. Sporting CP against LASK
Sporting have won both matches and now face a side that conceded six to Liverpool. Luis Suárez remains the obvious forward, but the wider attack deserves attention.
Five lessons from MD2
- Wait for the line-ups. Barcola became the best pick of the round only when Liverpool's actual front line was known.
- Minutes beat fixtures. Guirassy and Demirović had attractive opponents but limited playing time.
- Recovery monsters can survive lost clean sheets. Frimpong and Mouriño both reached 14 without a shut-out.
- Do not punish premium attackers for their team's defending. Haaland scored twice in a 4-2 defeat.
- The next fixture matters more than the last score. Villa, Liverpool, Club Brugge, City and Sporting carry the strongest early MD3 appeal.
Matchday 2 rewarded aggressive attacking picks, but its most useful lesson was about information. The managers who waited for line-ups could reach Barcola. The managers who understood the rules could escape Olise's red card. The managers who trusted strong Tuesday scores did not need a rescue at all.
The MD3 deadline is close. Use the UCL Fantasy rankings to compare the verified scores, check the fixture difficulty ratings, and wait for the confirmed line-ups before locking the next team.
