Seven goals. A hat-trick of fantasy hauls. And one of the most dramatic first halves in Champions League history. Barcelona have obliterated Newcastle 7-2 at Camp Nou (8-3 on aggregate), booking their place in the Quarter-Finals with a performance that rewrote the fantasy points sheet.
If you had Raphinha, Lewandowski or Yamal in your squad tonight, congratulations. If you did not, this article is your roadmap for the QF wildcard rebuild.
The Match: A Tale of Two Halves (Sort Of)
The first half was utterly breathless. Raphinha opened the scoring on six minutes before Anthony Elanga struck twice (15', 28') to put Newcastle 2-1 up on the night, and 3-2 ahead on aggregate. For 15 minutes, Camp Nou was stunned.
Then Marc Bernal made it 2-2 on 18 minutes, and the tie was level again. Five goals before the half-hour mark. But the decisive moment came deep into first-half stoppage time when Lamine Yamal converted a penalty (45'+7) to send Barcelona into the break 3-2 up and 4-3 ahead on aggregate. The momentum shift was total.
The second half was a demolition. Fermin Lopez (52'), Robert Lewandowski with a quickfire brace (56', 61') and Raphinha completing his own brace (72') turned a competitive tie into a 7-2 rout. Newcastle had no answer. Four unanswered goals and the aggregate finished 8-3.
Fantasy Points Breakdown
Let us break down the estimated fantasy hauls from Barcelona's seven-goal masterclass:
Raphinha is the big winner. As a midfielder, his two goals are worth 10 points alone (5 per goal for midfielders). Add in appearance points, potential bonus and any assists, and he is likely looking at 13+ fantasy points from this single match.
Lewandowski bags 8 points from his brace (4 per goal for forwards), plus appearance and likely bonus. A massive haul for anyone who backed the veteran Pole.
Yamal collects 5 points for his penalty goal as a midfielder, with additional points likely from assists across Barcelona's seven-goal spree.
Key stat: Barcelona scored seven goals with five different scorers. If you stacked Barcelona attack tonight, the combined haul could be 40+ fantasy points from a single match.
Newcastle Assets: Time to Sell
Newcastle's Champions League campaign is over. That means every Newcastle player in your squad is now a dead asset. Anthony Elanga scored twice and will collect decent points for tonight, but beyond this match there is nothing left to play for.
Action required: Sell all Newcastle assets immediately. Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak, Nick Pope, whoever you have. They will not play another Champions League minute this season. Free up those funds for Quarter-Final performers.
The Quarter-Final Must-Haves from Barcelona
1. Raphinha (MID)
Two goals tonight on top of a season where he has been one of the most consistent performers in the Champions League. Raphinha is a midfielder who plays as a wide forward, giving him the 5-point goal bonus rather than 4. He is nailed in this Barcelona side and should be one of the first names on your QF teamsheet.
2. Lamine Yamal (MID)
Still only a teenager, and already delivering on the biggest stage. His penalty tonight was ice-cold, converting under enormous pressure deep into stoppage time to swing the tie. He is on penalty duties for Barcelona in the Champions League, which adds a reliable floor to his points potential. A premium pick for the Quarter-Finals.
3. Robert Lewandowski (FWD)
The man simply does not stop scoring in this competition. Two goals tonight take his Champions League tally even higher, and at his price point he represents strong value. Barcelona are firing on all cylinders heading into the last eight, and Lewandowski will be at the centre of it.
4. Fermin Lopez and Marc Bernal (Budget Options)
Both got on the scoresheet tonight. If you need to free up budget elsewhere, these two represent cheaper routes into the Barcelona attack. Fermin Lopez in particular has been earning regular minutes and could be a shrewd differential pick for the Quarter-Finals.
Quarter-Final Picture So Far
With Barcelona's win tonight, five of the eight Quarter-Final spots are now confirmed:
- PSG (beat Chelsea 8-2 on aggregate)
- Real Madrid (beat Man City 5-1 on aggregate)
- Arsenal (beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-1 on aggregate)
- Sporting CP (beat Bodo/Glimt 5-2 on aggregate)
- Barcelona (beat Newcastle 8-3 on aggregate)
Still to be decided tonight: Liverpool vs Galatasaray, Atletico Madrid vs Tottenham, and Bayern Munich vs Atalanta.
