Best Defenders for the UCL Fantasy Quarter-Finals

Pacho delivers 13.2 points per million. Van Dijk averages 7.4 per game. Robertson sits at 2% ownership with 6.3 per match. The complete defender rankings for the QFs, broken down by tier, value, and fixture.

Defenders win UCL Fantasy leagues. It sounds counterintuitive, but the maths is brutal: a centre-back who keeps a clean sheet, plays 90 minutes, and nicks a headed goal from a set piece returns 15+ points. A forward who scores returns 6. The ceiling for defenders in a single gameweek is genuinely higher than for attackers, and the Quarter-Finals are where that advantage becomes decisive.

With only 8 teams remaining, every defensive pick carries real weight. Get it right and you build a platform for points that attackers simply cannot match at the same price. Get it wrong and you burn a squad slot on a player returning 2 points while his team concedes three.

Here is every defender worth considering for the Quarter-Finals, ranked by the numbers.

The Elite Tier

1. Willian Pacho (PSG) - 5.0m

The single best value asset in the entire game, regardless of position. 66 total points at 5.0m gives Pacho a staggering 13.2 points per million, which is nearly double the rate of most premium midfielders. He has 3 clean sheets, 2 goals from set pieces, and 1 assist across the campaign. At just 15% ownership, he is criminally underowned for a defender putting up these numbers.

PSG face Liverpool in the Quarter-Finals. It is a tough fixture, but Pacho's floor is high regardless. He plays every minute, wins aerial duels consistently, and carries genuine goal threat from corners. At 5.0m, there is no reason not to own him.

Verdict: Best value defender in the game. 13.2 points per million at 15% ownership. Near-essential.

2. Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) - 6.2m

The most consistent defender in the competition. Van Dijk averages 7.4 points per game, the highest of any defender in the QFs. He has 67 total points, 4 clean sheets, 2 goals, and 2 assists from his 9 appearances. At 42% ownership, managers clearly recognise his quality, but his per-game average still suggests he is underpriced at 6.2m.

Liverpool face PSG. Their defensive record in Europe this season has been strong, and Van Dijk's aerial dominance gives him a realistic chance of returning attacking points from set pieces on top of any clean sheet bonus.

Verdict: Highest average of any QF defender. 7.4 per game is elite. The premium pick.

3. Nuno Mendes (PSG) - 6.3m

71 total points makes Nuno Mendes the highest-scoring defender in the Quarter-Finals. He has 2 goals, 2 assists, and 3 clean sheets from 12 appearances, averaging 5.9 per game. The concern is his price: at 6.3m, he is the most expensive defender on this list, and his per-game average is lower than Van Dijk's despite a higher total.

That said, Mendes is an attacking full-back who bombs forward constantly. His assist potential from the left flank is genuine, and PSG's defensive structure under Luis Enrique means clean sheet points are a realistic possibility even against Liverpool.

Verdict: Highest total points of any QF defender. More expensive than Pacho but significantly more attacking output from the wing.

The Value Tier

4. Gabriel (Arsenal) - 5.7m

Gabriel has 5 clean sheets this campaign, the joint-most of any outfield player in the Quarter-Finals. He has 50 total points, averaging 7.1 per game, with 1 goal and 1 assist. At 33% ownership, he is a staple of most squads and for good reason.

Arsenal face Sporting CP. Arsenal's defensive record at the Emirates has been outstanding this season, and Gabriel's aerial presence at both ends of the pitch makes him a dual-threat asset. He averages 8.8 points per million, which is excellent for a defender of his calibre.

5. Achraf Hakimi (PSG) - 5.9m

Hakimi's stat line is unlike any other defender's: 1 goal and 5 assists from 9 appearances. That assist tally is remarkable for a defender, and it reflects his role as an attacking right-back who frequently delivers dangerous crosses into the area. He has 46 total points, 2 clean sheets, and 33% ownership.

The risk with Hakimi is rotation. PSG have options at right-back, and his defensive contribution is occasionally suspect. But when he plays, his attacking upside is the highest of any defender in the competition.

6. William Saliba (Arsenal) - 5.9m

Saliba has 39 total points, 4 clean sheets, and averages 5.6 per game. He has not scored or assisted yet, which limits his ceiling compared to Gabriel, but his clean sheet record is almost identical. At 9% ownership, he is a viable differential alongside or instead of Gabriel.

Stacking tip: Doubling up on Arsenal defenders (Gabriel + Saliba) is a legitimate strategy against Sporting CP. Arsenal have kept 5 clean sheets this campaign and Sporting must attack away from home in Leg 2 if they trail. The clean sheet probability is high.

The Budget Gems

This is where the real squad-building advantage lives. These defenders cost 5.0m or less and deliver points that rival mid-priced options.

7. Dean Huijsen (Real Madrid) - 4.5m

At just 4.5m, Huijsen has returned 40 total points with 3 clean sheets, averaging 5.0 per game. He has been a regular starter in Real Madrid's backline this season, and at 10% ownership, he offers premium defensive exposure at a budget price. Real Madrid face Bayern Munich, and with Bayern missing several key players (Musiala and Neuer both flagged as unlikely to start), a clean sheet is not out of the question.

8. Andrew Robertson (Liverpool) - 5.0m

Robertson is one of the most underowned players in the game. 38 total points, 6.3 average per game, 3 clean sheets, 1 goal, 1 assist, and yet just 2% ownership. That average of 6.3 per game from a 5.0m defender is extraordinary value. The catch? He has only made 6 appearances, which explains the low ownership and total.

But when Robertson plays, he delivers. His attacking output from left-back remains elite, and Liverpool's defensive solidity means clean sheet points are always in play. At 2% ownership, he is perhaps the single best differential in the entire Quarter-Final player pool.

Differential alert: Robertson at 2% ownership with a 6.3 per-game average is absurd. If he starts, he is one of the best picks in the competition.

9. Marquinhos (PSG) - 5.0m

The PSG captain has 49 total points, 2 goals, and 2 clean sheets from 10 appearances, averaging 4.9 per game. At 5.0m and 9% ownership, he gives you access to PSG's defence at a fraction of Nuno Mendes' price. His goal threat from set pieces adds a bonus layer, and his minutes are virtually guaranteed as the defensive leader.

10. Gonçalo Inácio (Sporting CP) - 4.5m

Inácio has 39 total points, 1 goal, and 2 clean sheets from 9 appearances at just 4.5m. At 2% ownership, he is a deep differential who could reward managers if Sporting manage to keep things tight in Leg 1 at home. Sporting face Arsenal, which is a difficult fixture, but at 4.5m the downside is minimal and the upside is genuine.

11. Iván Fresneda (Sporting CP) - 4.1m

The cheapest viable defender in the Quarter-Finals. Fresneda has 36 total points with 2 clean sheets from 9 appearances, averaging 4.0 per game. At 4.1m and 1% ownership, he is a pure enabler pick: a defender cheap enough to free up funds for premium attackers while still carrying the potential for clean sheet returns.

Defenders to Avoid

Not every defender from a QF team deserves a spot in your squad. Here are the traps.

Key stat: Barcelona and Atlético Madrid have both kept zero clean sheets this campaign. Avoid their defenders unless you are specifically chasing attacking returns from full-backs.

The Optimal Defensive Setup

Most managers run a back three in UCL Fantasy. Here are three template options depending on your budget.

Premium back three (17.6m)

Balanced back three (16.2m)

Budget back three (14.1m)

The beauty of the QF defender pool is that there is no wrong answer among the top options. Pacho at 5.0m is so cheap that every squad should find room for him. Van Dijk's consistency justifies his premium. And the budget options like Robertson and Fresneda let you construct a competitive defence while investing heavily in midfield and attack.

Choose your tier, pick your coverage, and let the defenders do the quiet work that wins leagues.
