Best Budget Picks Under €6m for R16 Leg 2 — Bargains That Deliver

Not everyone can stack Lewandowski, Salah and Gyökeres. Here are the best value players under €6m across every position — cheap picks who can genuinely return for Matchday 12.

Budget players in UCL Fantasy aren’t just squad filler. They’re the enablers that let you afford the premiums who score big. Get your cheap picks right and you free up millions for the likes of Lewandowski, Martinelli and Salah. Get them wrong and you’re carrying dead weight on your bench — or worse, in your starting XI.

The Savant panel has scoured every squad in the Round of 16 to find players priced under €6m who have a genuine route to points in Matchday 12. These aren’t hopeful punts — they’re picks backed by aggregate context, set-piece involvement, home advantage and expected minutes.

💰 Why Budget Picks Matter in MD12

The R16 second legs feature wildly different aggregate situations. Bayern lead 6-1, PSG lead 5-2, Atlético lead 5-2 — these “dead” ties are where budget players thrive. Teams rest stars, rotate squads, and give fringe players meaningful minutes in low-pressure environments. That’s where the value lives.

Goalkeepers Under €6m

Daniel Peretz — GK — €4.5m
Bayern München | Day 2 (Wed) | vs Atalanta (H) | Agg: Bayern lead 6-1
★ TOP BUDGET GK

Bayern’s goalkeeper situation has been well-documented — Manuel Neuer is out and Peretz has stepped in as the first-choice deputy. At €4.5m, he’s one of the cheapest goalkeepers available. Bayern lead 6-1 on aggregate, meaning Atalanta need to score five unanswered goals at the Allianz Arena to progress. That simply isn’t happening.

Peretz is looking at one of the highest clean sheet probabilities of any goalkeeper in MD12. GK clean sheet = 4 points, plus save points if Atalanta muster a few efforts. At this price, he’s essentially free money.

The Savant’s verdict: Best budget goalkeeper by a distance. The aggregate context does all the heavy lifting.

Guglielmo Vicario — GK — €5.0m
Tottenham | Day 2 (Wed) | vs Atlético Madrid (H) | Agg: Atlético lead 5-2
DIFFERENTIAL

Hear us out. Yes, Spurs trail 5-2 on aggregate. But Tottenham play at home, they’ll throw everything forward, and Atlético will sit deep and protect their lead. Simeone’s side are masters of low-block defending — they won’t be attacking the Spurs goal with urgency. That means Vicario could face a surprisingly low volume of shots on target.

The clean sheet is unlikely given Atlético’s quality on the counter, but save points are almost guaranteed in a game where Spurs dominate possession. At €5.0m, he’s a viable bench option.

Defenders Under €6m

Pau Cubársí — DEF — €4.5m
Barcelona | Day 2 (Wed) | vs Newcastle (H) | Agg: Level 1-1
★ TOP BUDGET DEF

The standout budget defender in MD12. Barcelona play at Camp Nou in a tie level at 1-1 — maximum motivation, maximum attacking intent, and a home crowd willing the team forward. Cubársí is nailed in Flick’s back line and offers genuine aerial threat from corners.

DEF clean sheet = 4 points. DEF goal = 6 points. At €4.5m, the upside-to-cost ratio is extraordinary. Barcelona’s home European record under Flick has been outstanding, and Newcastle’s away form in Europe has been inconsistent. This is a premium fixture wrapped in a budget price.

Min-jae Kim — DEF — €5.5m
Bayern München | Day 2 (Wed) | vs Atalanta (H) | Agg: Bayern lead 6-1
NEAR-CERTAIN CS

Bayern’s 6-1 aggregate lead means Kim is playing in what amounts to a friendly at the Allianz Arena. The clean sheet probability here is among the highest of any fixture in MD12. Kim is nailed at centre-back, aerially dominant from set pieces, and has chipped in with a UCL goal this season.

At €5.5m, you’re getting a near-guaranteed 4-point clean sheet floor with goal upside from corners. The definition of a safe budget pick.

Alejandro Grimaldo — DEF — €5.5m
Bayer Leverkusen | Day 1 (Tue) | vs Arsenal (A) | Agg: Level 1-1
DIFFERENTIAL

Grimaldo returns from suspension for the second leg at the Emirates. Leverkusen’s most attacking defender, he takes free kicks from the left, delivers dangerous set pieces, and operates almost as a winger when Leverkusen have possession. The tie is level at 1-1, so Xabi Alonso won’t sit back — Leverkusen need to score.

The clean sheet is unlikely given Arsenal’s home record, but Grimaldo’s attacking output makes him a genuine differential. DEF goal = 6 points, DEF assist = 3. At €5.5m, the ceiling is significant if Leverkusen nick an away goal.

Micky van de Ven — DEF — €5.0m
Tottenham | Day 2 (Wed) | vs Atlético Madrid (H) | Agg: Atlético lead 5-2
HIGH RISK

Spurs trail 5-2 and need a miracle. Postecoglou will throw caution to the wind at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which means Van de Ven — one of the fastest defenders in world football — will push high up the left flank. His recovery pace allows Spurs to play an aggressive high line even in desperation mode.

The clean sheet is near-impossible, but Van de Ven has assist potential from his marauding runs. A punt at €5.0m, but one with genuine upside if Spurs go on the rampage.

Midfielders Under €6m

Emre Can — MID — €5.0m
Borussia Dortmund — N/A (eliminated)
AVOID

Just flagging this because we’ve seen managers pick cheap midfielders from eliminated sides. There are no Dortmund, Inter, Juventus or other non-R16 players available. Every midfielder you pick must be from one of the 16 remaining clubs.

Leroy Sané — MID — €5.5m
Bayern München | Day 2 (Wed) | vs Atalanta (H) | Agg: Bayern lead 6-1
★ TOP BUDGET MID

Sané is likely to start in a rotated Bayern side given the 6-1 aggregate cushion. Kompany can afford to rest Musiala or Gnabry and give Sané a full 90 minutes. When Sané starts, he’s direct, dangerous and capable of goals and assists in bunches. MID goal = 5 points, MID clean sheet = 1 point.

At €5.5m, you’re getting a Bayern attacker in a dead tie at home. The floor is a clean sheet point plus 60-minute appearance bonus. The ceiling is a goal or assist in a relaxed Bayern performance. Excellent value.

Dani Olmo — MID — €5.5m
Barcelona | Day 2 (Wed) | vs Newcastle (H) | Agg: Level 1-1
ROTATION RISK

When Olmo plays, he’s electric — a goal threat from the half-spaces, sharp movement, and involvement in Barcelona’s intricate attacking patterns. The tie is level at 1-1 at Camp Nou, so Flick will name a strong side. Olmo’s minutes have been managed due to fitness concerns, but if he starts (or comes on early), the returns could be huge.

MID goal = 5 points. The risk is a 20-minute cameo. Check Predicted Lineups before the deadline.

Jude Bellingham — MID — €5.5m
Real Madrid | Day 1 (Tue) | vs Man City (A) | Agg: Real Madrid lead 3-0
VALUE PICK

Bellingham has just been confirmed in the Real Madrid squad for the Etihad trip. At €5.5m — a price that reflects his earlier-season absence through injury — he’s absurdly undervalued. Real lead 3-0 on aggregate, so Arbeloa can manage Bellingham’s minutes, but even 60–70 minutes of Bellingham at the Etihad in a comfortable tie offers MID clean sheet potential plus his trademark late-arriving runs into the box.

The catch: He may not start. He may get 30 minutes off the bench. But at €5.5m, the cost of failure is negligible and the upside is a Bellingham goal (5 points) in a tie Real have already won.

Forwards Under €6m

Thomas Müller — FWD — €5.5m
Bayern München | Day 2 (Wed) | vs Atalanta (H) | Agg: Bayern lead 6-1
★ TOP BUDGET FWD

The Raumdeuter himself. Müller is the classic rotation-proof budget forward — he starts when Bayern rotate because his experience and intelligence are invaluable for managing dead ties. Kompany trusts him completely, and with the aggregate at 6-1, this is exactly the type of game Müller thrives in: low pressure, space to exploit, and a team that will still score for fun.

FWD goal = 4 points. Müller has a knack for being in the right place at the right time. At €5.5m, he’s the safest budget forward in the round by some distance. He featured in our Ultimate MD12 Squad for good reason.

Jens Petter Hauge — FWD — €5.0m
Bodø/Glimt | Day 1 (Tue) | vs Sporting (A) | Agg: Bodø lead 3-0
BUDGET ENABLER

Bodø/Glimt lead 3-0 from the first leg — one of the biggest upsets of the round. They travel to Lisbon with a massive cushion, and while Sporting will push for goals, Bodø’s counter-attacking threat is real. Hauge is their most dangerous attacker on the break: quick, direct and capable of finishing.

At €5.0m, he’s the cheapest viable starting forward in MD12. Even if Sporting dominate possession, Bodø will create chances on the transition. One goal = 4 points from a €5.0m player. That’s the kind of value that funds a Lewandowski or Salah elsewhere.

Serge Gnabry — FWD — €5.5m
Bayern München | Day 2 (Wed) | vs Atalanta (H) | Agg: Bayern lead 6-1
DIFFERENTIAL

If Kompany starts both Müller and Gnabry in a rotated front line, you’ve got two budget Bayern forwards in a dead tie. Gnabry’s pace and directness make him a constant threat, and he’s been clinical in recent weeks. The risk is that Kompany only plays one of them — check lineups before the deadline.

At €5.5m, Gnabry is a viable alternative to Müller if you want to double up on Bayern’s attack without spending a penny over €6m on forwards.

The Savant’s Budget XI

📋 All-Budget Starting XI (Under €6m Only)

GK: Peretz (€4.5m)
DEF: Cubársí (€4.5m) — Kim (€5.5m) — Grimaldo (€5.5m)
MID: Sané (€5.5m) — Bellingham (€5.5m) — Olmo (€5.5m)
FWD: Müller (€5.5m) — Hauge (€5.0m)

Total cost: €47.0m — That leaves €53.0m for your remaining 6 players. Enough for Lewandowski, Salah, Martinelli, Saliba, Rice and Raya with change to spare.

Remember: You don’t need to go all-budget. The point is to identify 2–3 of these players who can start or sit on your bench, freeing up funds for the premiums who win you your mini-league.

Which Budget Picks to Prioritise

If you can only pick two or three from this list, here’s the panel’s ranking:

  1. Pau Cubársí (€4.5m) — Nailed, Camp Nou, level aggregate, clean sheet + goal upside. The best value pick in the entire round.
  2. Thomas Müller (€5.5m) — Rotation-proof, dead tie, Bayern at home. Safe floor with goal upside.
  3. Leroy Sané (€5.5m) — Bayern rotation beneficiary in a procession. MID classification means 5 points per goal rather than 4.
  4. Daniel Peretz (€4.5m) — Cheapest route to a near-certain clean sheet. Perfect bench GK.
  5. Jude Bellingham (€5.5m) — Absurd value if he starts. Check team news before committing.
