Real Madrid have started the new La Liga season with three wins from three, scoring 10 goals and giving UCL Fantasy managers their first proper clues about how José Mourinho plans to use his rebuilt squad.
Madrid will inevitably provide some of the most popular Fantasy assets this season. The difficulty is working out which of their stars offer enough security of starts to justify the investment.
After Sunday’s convincing 4-0 win over Malaga, the picture is beginning to become clearer.
Bellingham is emerging as one of the standout UCL Fantasy midfielders
Jude Bellingham (€8.5m) produced another reminder of his Fantasy potential against Malaga, opening the scoring with an excellent individual goal.
The biggest attraction is his role.
Rather than being asked to control matches from deep, Bellingham is operating as Madrid’s attacking midfielder, regularly arriving around the penalty area and linking with the front line.
He has now started the season with two goals and two assists from Madrid’s opening three league matches.
For UCL Fantasy managers, that is exactly the profile we want from a midfielder. Bellingham offers genuine goal threat, attacking involvement and the extra scoring benefits that come with being classified as a midfielder.
Just as importantly, he looks increasingly close to rotation-proof.
Mourinho has changed personnel around him during Madrid’s opening matches, but Bellingham appears to be one of the players around whom the team is being built.
At €8.5m, he could prove one of the strongest routes into the Real Madrid attack.
Mbappé remains the safest Madrid attacker
Kylian Mbappé (€11.0m) is expensive, but there is very little mystery surrounding his Fantasy appeal.
He is Madrid’s first-choice striker, the focal point of an attack that has already scored 10 goals in three matches and one of the strongest captaincy options available in the entire game.
The biggest question is therefore not whether Mbappé is a good pick. It is whether spending €11.0m on him represents better value than using that money elsewhere.
Madrid’s Champions League fixtures will have a major say in that decision.
When Mourinho’s side face weaker opposition, Mbappé will immediately come into consideration as a captain. That ability to offer both reliable minutes and an enormous points ceiling makes him considerably easier to trust than some of Madrid’s other attacking options.
Vinícius is returning points without being at his best
Vinícius Júnior (€9.5m) has already recorded one goal and two assists this season despite not yet looking completely comfortable.
That could actually be seen as encouraging.
There have been moments of imprecision and occasions where Vinícius has struggled to find space, but he is still producing Fantasy-relevant returns.
Playing from the left alongside Mbappé gives him an enormous ceiling whenever Madrid dominate possession.
The issue is price.
At €9.5m, Vinícius is only €1.5m cheaper than Mbappé. UCL Fantasy managers will therefore need to decide whether the saving is enough to compensate for Mbappé’s more central role and stronger captaincy appeal.
Owning both would give enormous exposure to Madrid’s attack, but it would also consume €20.5m of a €100m starting budget.
That makes Bellingham potentially even more interesting as an alternative route into the same attack.
Madrid’s rotation is the biggest Fantasy concern
The most obvious lesson from Madrid’s opening games is that Mourinho intends to use the depth available to him.
He made five changes for the Malaga match and the performance did not suffer. In fact, Madrid arguably improved.
That is great news for Mourinho over a long season but creates a problem for Fantasy managers.
Madrid now have serious competition for places across defence, midfield and attack. A player can be an excellent footballer and still be a poor UCL Fantasy selection if their minutes are unpredictable.
This is particularly important in defence.
Mourinho has already indicated that he sees relatively little difference between several of his options at full-back, which suggests rotation could become a regular feature once the Champions League schedule begins.
Attacking defenders will always be tempting when Madrid have favourable fixtures, but starting security needs to be considered before committing a valuable Fantasy slot.

One advantage UCL Fantasy managers have is that the domestic matches immediately before Champions League deadlines can provide useful clues.
Mourinho’s selections over the next few weeks should tell us whether a clear first-choice defence develops or whether Madrid continue rotating heavily.
The same applies further forward.
Madrid possess enough attacking talent to make almost any of their forwards interesting when starting. The difficult part is predicting who gets 80 minutes and who gets 20.
Fantasy managers should therefore resist picking players simply because of reputation.
Minutes matter.
Bellingham may offer the best balance of price and security
This is where Bellingham currently stands out.
Mbappé probably has the highest raw ceiling and Vinícius remains one of Europe’s most dangerous attackers, but Bellingham combines several qualities that are particularly valuable in UCL Fantasy.
He is cheaper than both, classified as a midfielder, getting into goalscoring positions and appears central to Mourinho’s plans.
If those trends continue, €8.5m could look very reasonable.
It also makes Madrid attacking double-ups easier to build.
Pairing Bellingham with Mbappé costs €19.5m, while combining Bellingham with Vinícius costs €18.0m. Either structure may prove more flexible than investing in both premium Madrid attackers.
Real Madrid UCL Fantasy verdict
Real Madrid already look stronger than they did last season and their opening performances suggest they will once again be one of the most important teams for UCL Fantasy managers.
The challenge is separating Madrid’s best footballers from Madrid’s best Fantasy assets.
Right now, three players stand clearly above the rest.
Bellingham: arguably the most interesting option at his price, combining strong minutes with an extremely attacking role.
Mbappé: the premium pick and one of the strongest captaincy options in UCL Fantasy whenever the fixture is right.
Vinícius: capable of explosive returns but facing tougher competition from Mbappé and Bellingham when managers decide how to spend their budget.
The rest of Madrid’s squad contains plenty of potential, but rotation remains the key risk.
Before investing elsewhere, we want evidence that a player is genuinely part of Mourinho’s preferred Champions League XI.
With Madrid scoring 10 goals across their first three matches, finding the right route into their attack could be hugely important for Matchday 1.
